Chile Set for Time Change: Transitioning to Winter Time

New Time Adjustment to Take Effect on Saturday

Details and Impact of the Change

Santiago de Chile, April 5th, 2023 - Chile will undergo a time adjustment on Saturday, April 6th, 2024, transitioning from summer time to winter time. This change is mandated by Decree 224, enacted on July 14th, 2022, which establishes the winter time period between the indicated dates.

Beginning at 11:59 PM on April 6th, all clocks in Chile will need to be set back by one hour. This adjustment will mark the start of the 2024 winter time period, which will continue until September 2024.

Chile Insular Occidental: Exceptional Adjustment

The time change will be handled differently in the Chile Insular Occidental region, which includes Rapa Nui (Easter Island). In this area, the time adjustment will also occur on April 6th, but at a different time to account for the region's geographical isolation and proximity to the date line.

Impact on Daily Life

The time change is expected to have a minor impact on daily life in Chile. Individuals and businesses should take necessary precautions to adjust to the new time schedule, particularly with regards to appointments and travel arrangements.
