Connecticut Sun Hold Off Indiana Fever 81-78
Caitlin Clark Makes WNBA Debut
Uncasville, Conn. (May 31, 2023) - The Connecticut Sun held off the Indiana Fever 81-78 on Wednesday night, thanks to a key block by Brionna Jones in the final seconds. The victory improved the Sun's record to 5-3, while the Fever fell to 2-6.
Alyssa Thomas led the Sun with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while DeWanna Bonner added 19 points and 7 rebounds. Clark, the former Iowa star, made her WNBA debut for the Fever and finished with 20 points on 5-of-15 shooting.
The game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than seven points. The Fever took a 78-77 lead with 1:30 remaining, but Thomas answered with a jumper to give the Sun the lead back. After Indiana missed a shot, Jones blocked a potential game-tying three-pointer by Clark to seal the victory.
